First Devlog!

Hey there! This is my first attempt at writing a devlog, and it's about Penumbra. The idea came from participating in Godot Wild Jam #82, where the theme was "unseen."
So, I thought of merging my love for Balatro with Black King, a card game I play with my friends that's all about not seeing the cards, but relying on memory and uncertainty. And to give it a suspense/horror/noir atmosphere feslt just right.
The first problem, of course, was learning how to make a card game on Godot. Looked for some tutorials, but none that fit the game... So, started from scratch. Added some images of the proccess to this devlog.
After some delays, we arrived at some working "vanilla" gameplay against the AI (a dumb one), although some elements of the original game are still missing. To actually see it with the correct atmosphere in the prototype, I found no other way than to ask ChatGPT for some backgrounds, but I would love to replace them in the future with some better, proper art.
Moving forward, the main plan would be:
- Add the few elements missing from the gameplay (like the "mirror" system to play outside your turn).
- Add a slightly smarter vanilla AI (nothing fancy, but a little more engaging).
- Add a proper leaderboard for points and a save/load system.
- On the longer side, create a proper single-player deck-builder experience around this game to play against the House.
So, that's all, folks. If you have ideas, find some of the many bugs, or just want to say hello, I would love to hear!
Until next time.
